FAQ
St. John’s Wort Tincture (Hypericum perforatum) is a herbal preparation made from fresh St. John’s wort herb (herba) using the traditional cold maceration method. This process helps preserve a broad spectrum of naturally occurring plant compounds.
Fresh St. John’s wort gives the tincture a richer and more vibrant character. It also helps preserve delicate plant compounds that may be partially lost during drying, giving this preparation a special place in traditional herbal practice.
Our St. John’s wort is grown on our organic herbal farm in Slovenia or ethically harvested from the wild. Each plant is carefully hand-picked during its flowering season, when it is at its peak.

St. John’s Wort (Hypericum perforatum)
St. John’s wort is a sun-loving plant with delicate yellow flowers that release a distinctive reddish pigment when gently pressed. It grows in meadows, along woodland edges and on dry hillsides, where its bright flowers mark the height of summer.
It belongs to the Hypericaceae family.
In herbalism, we use the above-ground parts of the plant (herba), harvested during the flowering season.
The Latin name Hypericum perforatum has an interesting meaning. The word perforatum means “perforated”, referring to the tiny translucent dots on the leaves that resemble small holes. When you hold a leaf up to the light, these dots become clearly visible. They are tiny glands containing naturally occurring plant compounds.
One of the plant’s fascinating characteristics is that its flowers release a red pigment when rubbed between the fingers, a feature that has long been associated with its special qualities. St. John’s wort is often called the “sunshine herb”, symbolising light, warmth and inner balance.
Traditionally, St. John’s wort has been used to support well-being during periods of emotional sensitivity and to help maintain emotional balance. It is often incorporated into evening routines or used during times when greater calm and inner stability are desired.
The plant also has a long history of traditional use as part of a holistic approach to supporting general well-being, relaxation and maintaining balance between body and mind.

How Is St. John’s Wort Connected to John the Baptist – Also from an Astrological Perspective?
The Feast of St. John the Baptist (24 June) falls close to the summer solstice, when the Sun reaches its highest point in the sky. In astrology, this period is associated with maximum light, warmth and vitality.
St. John’s wort has long been recognised as a distinctly “sunny herb”. Its golden flowers and red pigment symbolically embody the qualities of the Sun – light, warmth, clarity and inner stability. Traditionally, it was believed that plants harvested around the summer solstice carried the strongest imprint of these energies.
From an astrological perspective, this is also the time when the Sun moves from Gemini into Cancer – a transition from lightness and movement towards a more sensitive, inward-looking world. St. John’s wort is therefore symbolically associated with a bridge between sunlight and our inner emotional world.
Can St. John’s Wort Affect Dreams and Dreaming?
Some people report experiencing more vivid or memorable dreams when taking St. John’s wort. These observations are mainly based on personal experiences and traditional use rather than conclusive scientific evidence.
St. John’s wort has traditionally been used to support inner balance and a sense of calm in the evening, which is why many people incorporate it into their evening routines. During this process of relaxation, the experience of sleep and dreams may also change.
