Comfrey (Symphytum officinale)
Comfrey is a strong, earthy plant that grows along paths and in moist soils, where its large leaves and deep roots give it a sense of stability. Its Latin name, Symphytum, comes from the Greek word meaning “to unite” or “to join together”, giving the plant a special symbolic connection with wholeness and unity. In traditional herbal practice, comfrey has long been valued as a plant used during periods of physical strain.

The root is used in the balm and is slowly macerated in oil. This creates a rich, full-bodied macerate that leaves the skin feeling warm, soft and deeply cared for.

Olive oil (Olea europaea)
Olive oil is a soft, warming oil with a long tradition of use. Its texture is rich yet pleasant on the skin.

In the balm, it provides a gentle base that allows the product to spread easily and envelops the skin in a feeling of softness.

Beeswax (Cera alba)
Beeswax has a mild, honey-like aroma and a pleasantly firm texture.

In the balm, it brings the ingredients together and creates a soft protective layer on the skin.

Why should Comfrey Balm only be used for a limited period (e.g. up to 2 weeks at a time)?

Comfrey root (Symphytum officinale) naturally contains compounds known as pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PAs). Although these are present in very small amounts in products intended for external use, they may gradually be absorbed through the skin with prolonged and continuous use.

For this reason, comfrey products are generally recommended for use over shorter periods, with breaks in between. This precautionary approach helps ensure the safe and balanced use of the herb.

Comfrey Balm is therefore intended for occasional use on selected areas rather than for prolonged, continuous everyday skin care.
