FAQ

Herb Robert tincture (Geranium robertianum) is a natural herbal preparation made from fresh or dried aerial parts (herba). It is prepared using the traditional cold maceration method, which helps preserve a broad spectrum of naturally occurring plant compounds.

The alcohol content is carefully adjusted to the characteristics of the plant, allowing effective extraction of different groups of compounds. In this way, the tincture retains the balanced plant profile characteristic of Herb Robert.

The herbs are carefully wild-harvested by hand, with respect for the plant and its natural environment.

Herb Robert (Geranium robertianum)

Herb Robert is a delicate yet easily recognisable wild plant, often found along woodland edges, among hedgerows, beside shaded paths and in the damper corners of the landscape. It has small pinkish-purple flowers, softly divided leaves and a distinctive, rather strong scent by which many people quickly recognise it. Although it may appear fragile, it is a resilient and persistent plant that readily finds its place where the soil remains rich and alive.

It belongs to the geranium family (Geraniaceae).

In herbalism, we primarily use the aerial parts of the plant (herba), gathered during its growing and flowering period. This part of the plant carries the characteristic astringent, herbal nature for which Herb Robert has long held a special place in folk herbal tradition.

Its names carry traces of the old ways in which people observed and understood plants through their appearance, character and traditional uses. The botanical name Geranium comes from the Greek word for crane, referring to the plant’s long, beak-like fruit. The name robertianum has traditionally been associated with Saint Robert, with whom the plant was linked in old herbal traditions.

Herb Robert is a plant of quiet transitions. In folk herbalism, it was never among the most celebrated garden herbs, but rather one of those more hidden companions that had to be known, noticed and gathered at the right time. Perhaps this is why it still carries something ancient and almost mysterious. In traditional herbal practice, it has often been associated with women’s cycles, the natural rhythms of the body and periods when we may wish to offer the body gentle support from nature.

Traditionally, Herb Robert is used during periods when we wish to support the body’s natural cycles and gently accompany its inner balance. Folk herbal tradition particularly associates the plant with women’s rhythms, times of transition and a deeper sense of connection with the body. Because

What is the difference between Herb Robert and Lady’s Mantle, and when are they used during the menstrual cycle?

Herb Robert (Geranium robertianum) and Lady’s Mantle (Alchemilla vulgaris) are both traditionally associated with the female cycle, but they differ in their character and traditional use.

Due to its tannin content, Herb Robert has a distinctly astringent character. In herbal practice, it is often used cyclically, beginning around the last days of menstruation and continuing during the following part of the cycle.

Lady’s Mantle has a gentler, more rounded character. In traditional herbal practice, it is often associated with the second half of the cycle, after ovulation and before the next menstrual period.

Some herbal traditions therefore use the two plants at different stages of the cycle – Herb Robert earlier in the cycle and Lady’s Mantle later. However, traditional practices vary, and the most suitable approach depends on the individual.

Can I take Herb Robert if I am undergoing IVF?

During IVF treatment, the body is usually following a carefully controlled hormonal protocol, so particular caution is advisable when using herbal preparations.

Herb Robert (Geranium robertianum) is a distinctly astringent herb that is traditionally used cyclically. For this reason, we do not recommend using it during an active IVF protocol without first consulting the doctor or qualified healthcare professional overseeing your treatment.

Some women choose to use herbs during the preparation period before IVF and then pause once the active treatment protocol begins.

Every IVF journey is individual, so the safest approach is to discuss any herbal preparations or food supplements with the healthcare professional managing your treatment.

Is Herb Robert safe during pregnancy?

Herb Robert (Geranium robertianum) is generally not recommended during pregnancy.

It is a distinctly astringent herb due to its tannin content and has traditionally been used during specific, cyclical periods. Its safety during pregnancy has not been sufficiently established, so we recommend avoiding its use during this time.

Can Herb Robert also be used by men?

Herb Robert (Geranium robertianum) is often associated with the female cycle in herbal tradition, but some traditional sources also mention it in a broader context when both partners are involved.

It is a distinctly astringent herb that has traditionally been included during periods when we wish to support the body’s inner balance. In this context, it is sometimes included in herbal routines for men as part of a broader approach.

However, most traditional references and experience with Herb Robert in this context relate primarily to women. Its use by men is therefore generally considered as
