FAQ
Field Horsetail Tincture is an organic food supplement made from dried field horsetail herb (Equisetum arvense, herba), prepared using a carefully developed dual extraction process with water and alcohol, supported by ultrasound-assisted technology. This method allows us to extract a broader spectrum of naturally occurring plant compounds, including water-soluble silicon compounds, flavonoids and phenolic compounds. In traditional herbal use, horsetail is associated with a sense of flow and balance in the body and is often used to support kidney function and the natural elimination of water. Due to its natural silica content, it is also traditionally included in routines for maintaining healthy hair, nails and skin.
Our extraction process combines traditional herbal knowledge with modern ultrasound-assisted technology. One portion of the dried horsetail is gently simmered in water to extract water-soluble compounds, including some of its naturally occurring silicon compounds. Another portion is extracted using organic Slovenian fruit brandy to obtain other characteristic plant constituents. Both extraction stages are further supported by ultrasound-assisted technology, which helps release compounds from the plant material. The water and alcohol extracts are then combined, left to macerate further and carefully filtered, resulting in a thoughtfully prepared herbal tincture.
The horsetail used for our tincture comes from carefully selected natural habitats in Slovenia, primarily from our herbal farm. It is harvested by hand, with care for the plant and respect for its natural rhythm.

Field Horsetail (Equisetum arvense)
Field horsetail is one of those plants that seems quiet, almost austere, yet carries a remarkable sense of ancient strength. It belongs to a very old group of plants whose relatives grew on Earth long before today’s flowering plants. Perhaps this is why horsetail often evokes a sense of something primordial, structured and enduring. Equisetum arvense is a recognised botanical species widely distributed throughout the temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere.
It belongs to the horsetail family (Equisetaceae). The aerial parts of the plant – the herb – are used in herbal preparations, botanically referred to as Equisetum arvense L., herba.
Field horsetail is fascinating even at first glance. Its hollow, jointed stems feel rough to the touch, almost as though they carry within them a memory of earth, sand and stone. Because of this rough texture, horsetail was traditionally used in some regions for cleaning and polishing wooden and metal objects. This distinctive quality probably also contributed to its reputation as a plant associated with firmness, order and structure. Horsetail is also a rhizomatous geophyte, which makes it remarkably resilient and persistent in its growth.
In traditional herbal use, field horsetail is particularly associated with periods when people wish to support increased urinary flow and the natural flushing of the urinary tract, as well as a greater sense of flow within the body. The European Medicines Agency (EMA) monograph on horsetail herb recognises its traditional use for increasing urine production as an adjunct in minor urinary tract complaints, as well as for the supportive treatment of superficial wounds. When describing it as a food supplement, gentler wording is therefore appropriate, focusing on supporting a sense of flow, the natural elimination of water and its traditional inclusion in routines for hair, skin and nails.
In folk herbalism, field horsetail has often been regarded as a plant of order and discipline. It does not stand out through a strong fragrance or showy flowers, but through its simplicity and upright form. Perhaps this is why it resonates so naturally with people looking for something calm, grounded and faithful to the rhythms of nature – a plant that does not demand attention, but simply endures.
Field Horsetail Tincture + Nettle Tincture
- both tinctures for internal use
- traditionally, horsetail and nettle complement each other well during periods when greater balance and a sense of flow are desired. Horsetail, with its structured character, brings a sense of steadiness, while nettle adds a green, nourishing quality associated with vitality.
Field Horsetail Tincture + Kidney Support Tincture
- both tinctures for internal use
- a combination of two herbal tinctures for those looking for well-rounded herbal support
- Kidney Support combines the qualities of several herbs, while field horsetail naturally complements the blend, making them a harmonious addition to an everyday herbal routine.
Field Horsetail Tincture + Buckwheat Tincture
- both tinctures for internal use
- traditionally, horsetail and buckwheat are combined during periods when a greater sense of lightness in the legs and natural flow is desired. Horsetail brings a sense of fluid movement, while buckwheat gently complements the combination with its traditional association with circulation and balance.
How can I support better mineral absorption?
Mineral absorption depends not only on the preparation itself, but also on how the body functions as a whole. With field horsetail, it is worth noting that minerals, particularly silica, are better extracted in water. The tincture can therefore be complemented with other water-based herbal preparations or mineral-rich foods.
Adequate fluid intake is also important, as water plays an essential role in the transport and use of nutrients throughout the body. Vitamin C is another useful part of the picture, particularly because of its role in normal collagen formation and the healthy function of connective tissues.
In practice, you can combine the tincture with foods and plants naturally rich in vitamin C – for example lemon in water, rosehips or fresh green vegetables. This creates a more well-rounded daily routine and provides the body with a variety of nutrients it can use in its natural processes.
